Delhi: Three people have been arrested for allegedly running a fraudulent admission racket targeting parents seeking seats for their children at Delhi Technological University (DTU), with investigators uncovering a case involving impersonation and an alleged financial fraud of Rs 8.50 lakh.
The accused allegedly posed as university representatives and assured parents that they could secure admission for their children in the prestigious institution in exchange for money. Police identified Yashraj Bajpai as the alleged mastermind, who reportedly impersonated a DTU staff member to gain the trust of prospective students’ families.
The case came to light after Dr Kritika Joshi approached the police, alleging that she had been cheated of approximately Rs 8.50 lakh. She was reportedly contacted through online advertisements offering assistance with securing admission for her daughter at the university.
Following her complaint, an FIR was registered at Shahbad Dairy police station. Given the seriousness of the allegations, Delhi Police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the suspected racket.
During the probe, investigators apprehended Bajpai, who allegedly revealed the involvement of two other individuals, identified as Yuvraj and Devender Singh. Both had reportedly gone absconding following the registration of the case.
Acting on technical surveillance inputs, police traced the two suspects to Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, where they were arrested on October 26. They were subsequently taken on remand for further questioning.
Police are now examining the individual roles of all three accused, tracking the money allegedly collected from victims and investigating whether more people were involved in the operation. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
