US Releases Video Of Iranian Oil Tanker Sinking, Mocks Tehran

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Sunday released a video showing the Iranian oil tanker M/T Kylo, also known as the Noxen, sinking in the Gulf of Oman after a US military strike, escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.

CENTCOM said the Comoros-flagged tanker was destroyed after its crew abandoned the vessel. “Thanks to the precision and professionalism of American service members, the M/T Kylo sank in the Gulf of Oman today and joined Iran’s navy at the bottom of the sea,” it said in a post on X, in a remark that appeared to mock Tehran.

The footage showed the tanker engulfed in flames before sinking. The Kylo was one of three Iranian crude oil tankers targeted by US forces on Saturday following an alleged attack by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on US Navy warships.

According to CENTCOM, the other two vessels, M/T Downy and M/T Stark 1, were permanently disabled but remained afloat. The strikes represent a major escalation against Iranian commercial and petroleum-linked assets and could further disrupt regional oil shipments and maritime trade.

Iran Condemns US Strikes
Iran condemned the attacks on its commercial vessels as “illegal and irresponsible”, accusing Washington of military aggression, naval blockade and economic warfare. Tehran said the strikes violated Article 2(4) of the UN Charter and threatened international peace, security and maritime trade.

The IRGC warned that continued US “hostile and aggressive actions” would trigger “devastating responses” from Iranian forces.
