Iran Sets 7 Conditions For Talks With US To End War

Iran has conveyed seven conditions to the United States through Qatari mediators for restarting negotiations aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, according to Iranian security official Mohsen Rezaei. He said Tehran was awaiting US President Donald Trump’s response.

The complete list of seven conditions has not been publicly released. Rezaei, however, identified three key demands: an end to the war on all fronts, the release of frozen Iranian funds, and an end to the US naval blockade.

He said Qatar had passed the conditions to Washington and that Tehran remained in contact with Qatar and Pakistan, which have been involved in efforts to revive negotiations.

Rezaei said Iran’s position was to pursue an end to the conflict while remaining prepared for further military escalation if negotiations do not resume. He also said Iran’s military planning had been adjusted following earlier rounds of fighting.

On the nuclear issue, Rezaei said Iran had not decided to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and maintained that its nuclear policy remained unchanged.

He also said Tehran had not decided to close the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and indicated that discussions concerning the Strait of Hormuz remained possible.

Qatar and Pakistan have continued diplomatic efforts to facilitate renewed US-Iran talks after an earlier memorandum of understanding expired.
