New York: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has asked US President Donald Trump for a “winter package” of military equipment, including additional Patriot air-defence systems, as Kyiv seeks stronger protection for its energy infrastructure during the colder months.
Zelenskyy said the request was discussed during his meeting with Trump in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready for a bilateral energy ceasefire under which Kyiv would halt attacks on Russian energy facilities if Moscow stops strikes against Ukraine’s electricity, heating and water infrastructure.
He said there was no discussion of Ukraine unilaterally ending attacks on Russia’s oil sector.
He also said the talks with Trump focused on possible de-escalation steps and efforts to create conditions for renewed diplomacy.
Trump has previously raised concerns about attacks on Russian refineries and has said ending the war remains a goal.
Zelenskyy warned that Ukrainian intelligence indicated Russia could be preparing another large-scale attack, while Russia and Ukraine have continued strikes on energy and other infrastructure.
On air defence, Zelenskyy said Ukraine was seeking Patriots from US stocks this winter while arranging future interceptor supplies from Germany and continuing discussions on licensed production.
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham also said he pressed Trump to support an energy ceasefire and pledged further UK financial assistance for Ukrainian infrastructure.
