Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Makes Asian Games History At 15 After Pakistan Win

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has created history at the Asian Games 2026, becoming the youngest Indian ever to win a gold medal at the continental event.

The 15-year-old was part of India’s men’s cricket team that defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in the final to secure the gold medal. Sooryavanshi played a key role as an opener, featuring at the top of the order in both the semi-final and the final.

At 15 years, six months and six days, Sooryavanshi surpassed the previous record held by Indian shooter Saurabh Chaudhary.

Chaudhary had set the benchmark at the Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta, where he won gold in the men’s 10m air pistol event at the age of 16 years, three months and nine days.

India finished the 2026 Asian Games campaign with 85 medals, making it the country’s second-most successful Asian Games edition. The tally included 21 gold medals.

Sooryavanshi’s achievement adds another notable milestone to India’s campaign, with his gold coming as part of the men’s cricket team’s victory over Pakistan in the final.
