Woman Alleges COD Scam After Unordered Parcel With Torn Kurta

Mumbai: Author and writer Kiran Manral has alleged that she was targeted in an elaborate cash-on-delivery scam after an unsolicited parcel was delivered to her home through Delhivery.

In a series of posts on X, Manral said the parcel carried her correct name, address and phone number, making it appear genuine. However, she said there was no clear information about the sender.

According to Manral, her son received the parcel and paid ₹1,299 as the COD amount before opening it. She said she had not ordered anything and was shocked to find a “half torn used kurta” inside the package.

Sharing photographs of the delivery label and the contents, Manral questioned how scammers had obtained her personal details.

“As a delivery platform collecting COD I will also hold @delhivery responsible,” she wrote, questioning how her information, “down to my phone number,” reached the scammers.

In a subsequent post, Manral clarified that she never uses COD and said the parcel was received by her son. She added that everything appeared legitimate — including the name, number and address — except for the absence of a sender’s name.

Manral also said she was holding Delhivery responsible for the payment because the company had collected the money. She questioned how she could recover the amount when she had no information about the sender.

While the financial loss was ₹1,299, Manral said the larger concern was how unsolicited COD parcels can be delivered using accurate personal information, raising questions about the possible misuse or leakage of customer data.

The allegations and details above are based on Manral’s posts on X; the source of the parcel and how her personal details were obtained have not been independently established.
