India Condemns Houthi Attacks On Saudi Energy Facilities

India has condemned the recent Houthi attacks on energy facilities in Saudi Arabia, saying such strikes pose a threat to regional security, stability and freedom of navigation through the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait.

The Ministry of External Affairs issued India’s first official response to the attacks, with spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal strongly denouncing the targeting of Saudi territory. He said, “India condemns attacks on Saudi sovereign territory, especially the targeting of civilian and economic facilities. Attacks that undermine regional security and stability and threaten freedom of navigation in the Bab-el-Mandeb were unacceptable,”

The Houthis targeted Saudi Aramco energy facilities in southern Saudi Arabia on Tuesday as part of what they described as a broad operation.

Saudi authorities said the strikes caused fires at several oil installations and utility sites, leaving 73 people injured.

The attacks came after the Houthis accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out multiple air and cruise missile strikes on areas under Houthi control in Yemen.

The latest escalation comes amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran. Yemen’s civil war, which began in 2014, has killed at least 150,000 people, according to UN estimates, while the conflict has also pushed the country towards famine at various points.
