Chandigarh: Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha on Thursday took a sharp jibe at his former party Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), likening its behaviour towards him to that of an ex-girlfriend who has been left behind but cannot stop thinking about her former partner.
Chadha said AAP had reached a point where he felt he had become a recurring presence in the party’s discussions, claiming that his name continued to dominate its narrative despite his departure.
He further compared the party to a “heartbroken lover”, saying he was concerned that its alleged fixation on him could eventually prove harmful to itself.
The former AAP leader also turned his attention to Punjab’s drug problem, accusing the state government of failing to curb the availability of ‘chitta’. He alleged that the drug could be easily obtained in streets, villages and neighbourhoods and claimed that supplies were even reaching people’s homes.
Chadha announced that the BJP would hold a Nasha Mukt Yatra from September 18 to 30 across Punjab as part of its campaign against drug abuse. He made the announcement after attending a BJP meeting in Chandigarh.
He questioned the government’s claims about its anti-drug campaign, alleging that people were lining up to purchase chitta and cited the death of Sangrur resident Gulzar Singh, who had reportedly raised concerns with authorities about his son’s addiction.
On the controversy surrounding his name being listed as “shifted” in Punjab’s draft electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision, Chadha alleged political vendetta by AAP and said the party continued to target him after his exit.
Chadha and Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak visited the Punjab BJP office in Chandigarh for the first time after joining the BJP in April along with five other Rajya Sabha MPs. They attended a strategy meeting chaired by Punjab BJP in-charge Dr Satish Punia.
