Kedarnath Yatra Suspended After Landslide Kills One Near Cheerbasa Helipad

The Kedarnath pilgrimage was temporarily suspended on Sunday after a man was killed by falling boulders near the Cheerbasa Helipad amid rain and landslides in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, the victim was struck by boulders that rolled down a hillside near the helipad and died at the spot. He was identified as 65-year-old Madan Mohan Tiwari, a resident of Ukhimath.

Police said rain-triggered debris had blocked the Kedarnath pilgrimage route, prompting authorities to restrict pilgrim movement for safety.

Pilgrims travelling towards Kedarnath have been advised to stop at Sonprayag and Gaurikund, while those returning from the shrine have been asked to halt at Jangalchatti.

Authorities have urged pilgrims not to proceed further until the route is cleared and official permission is granted. Officials said the yatra will resume only after weather conditions improve and the affected stretches are cleared to ensure the safety of pilgrims and travellers.

The suspension comes amid continued rainfall in the region, raising concerns over landslides and debris along the Himalayan pilgrimage route.
