Gurugram Hit-And-Run Accused Kalyan Bainsla Arrested

Gurugram: Gurugram Police has arrested Kalyan Bainsla, who was allegedly involved in hitting biker Sia with a car on Golf Course Road, from Dausa in Rajasthan.

Police said a team will bring Bainsla to Gurugram for further investigation. The development came after the police added Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to attempt to murder, to the case following an analysis of CCTV footage.

According to Gurugram Police, it had taken suo motu cognisance of a video showing a car hitting a female biker on Golf Course Road and registered an FIR at Sector-56 Police Station. The police said a detailed examination of CCTV footage during the investigation led to the addition of the stringent provision, which carries a punishment of up to 10 years’ imprisonment.

“Playing with the law will not be tolerated at any cost. Gurugram Police is committed to taking strict action against the accused,” the police said in a warning.

Before the arrest, a police team led by Sector-56 SHO Manoj Kumar had visited Sia’s residence in Kalkaji, south Delhi, to record her detailed statement. The police subsequently incorporated the additional sections into the FIR.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning when Sia was riding with other bikers on Golf Course Road. She sustained injuries after Bainsla, who was allegedly driving a car, collided with her motorcycle and fled the spot.

The case was registered after Gurugram Police’s Social Media Monitoring Cell came across the video of the incident circulating online on September 14.

Sia had alleged that the car pursued her, the occupants made threatening gestures and the vehicle deliberately collided with her two-wheeler before fleeing. She had sought exemplary punishment for the accused, raising concerns over reckless driving and road rage involving women on Delhi-NCR roads.
