India’s Quimcy Joaquim Dsouza and Mohamed Anas Imran Beg kept their medal hopes alive in teqball after defeating the Philippines’ Abulencia Jhoana and Agustin Prince 2-0 in the mixed doubles repechage at the 2026 Asian Games on Friday.
The Indian pair dominated the contest, winning the opening set 12-3 before sealing the second 12-6 to register a straight-sets victory and book their place in the bronze medal match on Sunday.
Dsouza and Beg had earlier suffered a 0-2 defeat against Vietnam’s Gian Nghi Trinh and Hoang Minh Tan Nguyen in the quarter-finals. The Vietnamese pair won the opening set 12-7, while India put up a stronger fight in the second before going down 10-12.
The quarter-final defeat ended India’s hopes of reaching the gold and silver medal matches, but the repechage win gave the duo another opportunity to fight for a podium finish.
Dsouza and Beg had negotiated a difficult Group A campaign, finishing with two wins and two defeats. They opened with a 2-0 victory over the Philippines before losing 1-2 to Cambodia and 0-2 to Thailand.
With their knockout qualification on the line, the Indian pair produced a commanding performance against Kuwait in their final group match, winning 12-1, 12-6 to advance to the quarter-finals.
Dsouza will also compete in the women’s singles competition. She topped Group A after victories over players from Japan and Cambodia and will face Indonesia’s Sumaya in the semi-final on Saturday.
