Matheus Cunha struck in the 89th minute as Manchester United rescued a point in a 1-1 draw against Fulham in their Premier League clash at Craven Cottage.
United, managed by Michael Carrick, fell behind to an own goal from Lisandro Martinez before Cunha’s late deflected effort ensured the visitors avoided another defeat.
The result came after United had surrendered a 2-0 lead against Brighton and Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup, extending a difficult spell for the club.
United created several opportunities in the first half but were unable to find a breakthrough. Bruno Fernandes missed a good chance after being picked out by a cutback from Cunha, while Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno produced a series of impressive saves.
Cunha and Martinez also saw efforts denied by Leno in the opening half-hour, with the German continuing to frustrate the visitors after the interval. Leno made further saves from Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo before United finally found the equaliser through Cunha’s late strike.
The draw leaves Manchester United 12th in the table with five points from five matches, having recorded one win, two draws and two defeats. They are 10 points behind leaders Manchester City, while Fulham remain 19th.
Elsewhere, Alexander Isak’s second-half goal helped Liverpool maintain their unbeaten start with a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
After a goalless first half, Cody Gakpo’s cross created the opening for Isak, whose 57th-minute finish took a slight deflection off Florian Wirtz before finding the net.
Liverpool moved to seven points from five matches with two wins and three draws, while Bournemouth remained without a victory and sit 17th.
