Announcing his arrival at the firing range, Gor had earlier posted on X, “Just touched down at Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan for Yudh Abhyas 2026, India’s largest bilateral defence exercise with any nation. Looking forward to seeing US Army and Indian troops train side by side.”
The 22nd edition of Yudh Abhyas began on September 15 at the Auli Foreign Training Node in Uttarakhand. The exercise is being conducted simultaneously at Auli and the Mahajan range, with around 600 personnel from each country participating.
The training programme covers operations across mountainous and desert terrain and includes infantry manoeuvres, small-arms firing, artillery engagements, long-range weapon systems and attack helicopter operations. The Indian Army said the drills are designed to improve interoperability and coordination between the two forces.
Technology integration is another key component of the exercise. The Ministry of Defence said the troops are employing drones and autonomous systems for surveillance and reconnaissance, besides demonstrating contemporary weapon systems at the Mahajan Field Firing Range.
Subject Matter Experts from the two armies are also exchanging views on emerging technologies and developments in multi-domain warfare. The exercise provides an opportunity for both sides to share tactics, techniques and procedures and improve their ability to conduct coordinated operations in varied operational environments.
Yudh Abhyas 2026 is focused on enhancing the joint operational capabilities of the Indian and US armies, particularly for Integrated Battle Groups operating across diverse terrain.
