India secured the silver medal in the mixed 4x400m relay at the Asian Games 2026 on Thursday after a strong finish from Vithya Ramaraj helped the quartet claim second place in the final.
The Indian team of Vishal TK, Poovamma MR, Manu TS and Vithya Ramaraj clocked 3:14.46 to finish behind Bahrain, who took the gold in 3:12.87. The bronze medal was won by the team that crossed the line in 3:14.54.
Vishal opened the race for India before handing the baton to Poovamma. India remained in contention through the middle stages, with Manu receiving the baton in third place after a late surge from the team.
Manu maintained India’s momentum before handing over to Ramaraj for the final leg. The Indian anchor produced a determined run to overtake the team ahead and move into second place.
Bahrain, however, had built a decisive advantage through Salwa Eid Nasser, whose strong anchor leg ensured the gold medal for her team.
India’s silver added another medal to its athletics haul at the continental showpiece, with the quartet’s performance keeping the country firmly in contention in the track events.
