Gulveer Singh Upgrades Asian Games Bronze To Silver In 10,000m

Indian long-distance runner Gulveer Singh improved on his previous Asian Games result by winning silver in the men’s 10,000m final in Nagoya on Friday. He clocked 28:29.38 to secure his second medal at the continental event.

Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew claimed gold in 28:27.51, while his compatriot Albert Kipto finished third with 28:34.18. Gulveer had previously won bronze in the same event at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

The silver adds to a strong 2026 campaign for Gulveer, who also won silver in the 10,000m and bronze in the 5,000m at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Gulveer’s journey in athletics began after he joined the Indian Army’s Grenadiers Regiment in 2018.

He later won bronze in the 5,000m at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships before claiming gold in both the 5,000m and 10,000m at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea.

He currently holds Indian national records in the 5,000m, 10,000m, one mile and half-marathon. In 2025, he became the first Indian to run a mile under four minutes and break the 60-minute barrier in the half-marathon. He also set an Asian record in the indoor 5,000m.
