Virat Kohli Completes 15,000 ODI Runs, Surpasses Sachin Tendulkar

Virat Kohli has reached the landmark of 15,000 ODI runs, becoming only the second batter in men’s ODI history to achieve the feat.

He reached the milestone in his 303rd innings during India’s first ODI against West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram, doing so 74 innings faster than Sachin Tendulkar.

Kohli entered the chase with 14,941 ODI runs and needed 59 to reach the mark. He completed it off just 46 balls after bringing up his half-century in 40 deliveries.

After reaching 15,000, Kohli raised both hands towards Tendulkar in a gesture of respect before acknowledging the standing ovation from the crowd.

India had made a solid start through Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill before Alzarri Joseph dismissed Rohit for 32, leaving India at 74/1 after 12 overs. Kohli then quickly increased the pace, attacking loose deliveries while Gill continued playing the steadier role.

Tendulkar had reached 15,000 ODI runs in his 377th innings in 2007. Kohli had earlier become the fastest batter to 13,000 ODI runs, reaching that milestone in 267 innings in 2023.

West Indies have also been a productive opponent for Kohli, against whom he had scored 2,261 ODI runs before this innings.
