Russian Strikes Injure 28 In Kharkiv, Kill Two In Kyiv Region: Zelenskyy

At least 28 people, including nine children, were injured in Russian strikes on Kharkiv, while two people were killed in the Kyiv region, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Monday, as attacks were reported across several parts of Ukraine.

Zelenskyy said a high-rise residential building in Kharkiv was hit, damaging parts of the second and fourth floors. He said Russian attacks also caused damage to residential and civilian infrastructure in Kyiv, including communications facilities, petrol stations, a cafe and a food market.

According to the Ukrainian president, a Palau-flagged vessel was struck in the Odesa region, while an ice cream factory in Zhytomyr was damaged. Residential buildings were also hit in Sumy, Rivne, Kharkiv and Odesa, while critical infrastructure came under attack in Vinnytsia, Dnipro, Khmelnytskyi and Zaporizhzhia regions.

Zelenskyy said two people were killed in the Kyiv region, including an Azerbaijani citizen, and offered condolences to their families. Emergency teams were deployed at the affected sites, he added.

The Ukrainian president called for continued international support, particularly in strengthening air defences and providing assistance for energy infrastructure and budgetary needs.

Russia, meanwhile, said its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 254 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones during the overnight period from 8 p.m. on September 27 to 8 a.m. on September 28. The Russian Defence Ministry said the drones were downed over 16 regions, as well as Crimea and waters of the Azov and Black seas.

The Russian claim covered areas including Belgorod, Bryansk, Smolensk, Kaluga, Tula, Kursk, Voronezh, Lipetsk, Tambov, Ryazan, Oryol, Saratov, Rostov, Moscow and Krasnodar. The battlefield and casualty claims from both sides could not be independently verified.
