A Delta flight travelling from Barcelona to Boston was forced to make an emergency landing in Porto, Portugal, on Sunday afternoon after smoke was reported inside the cabin.
Delta Flight DL251 was diverted to Porto following a reported mechanical issue, with the aircraft landing safely at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport.
According to flight tracking data from Flightradar24, the Airbus A330 departed Barcelona at around 3:15 p.m. local time, or 1315 GMT, and reached Porto at approximately 5:45 p.m., or 1645 GMT.
Following the emergency landing, eight passengers were treated on the airport tarmac, according to a spokesperson for Portugal’s emergency and civil protection authority. Three additional passengers were taken to a hospital for further treatment.
The Portuguese authority spokesperson said the forced landing was prompted by smoke inside the aircraft’s cabin. Delta said the aircraft had been diverted after a mechanical issue and confirmed that it landed safely in Porto.
