CJP Announces Jail Bharo Protest In Mumbai On October 2

The Cockroach Janta Party, led by Abhijeet Dipke, has announced a Jail Bharo Andolan in Mumbai on October 2 after police denied permission for its proposed protest at Shivaji Park against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Dipke had earlier said the party would protest if Kumar did not resign. Following the rejection of permission, he reiterated that the agitation would go ahead.

In a post on X, Dipke said the protest would be held on Gandhi Jayanti and used the hashtag #SaveDemocracy.

He later announced that the agitation was scheduled for 4 pm at Shivaji Park and wrote, “Gyanu, javanch lagel…” (“Gyanu, you will have to go…”).

The CJP has been seeking Kumar’s resignation while also opposing the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and raising concerns over the Election Commission’s functioning.

Mumbai Police said permission was denied citing a Bombay High Court order and subsequent Maharashtra government directions. Officials also pointed to missing civic permission, potential traffic congestion and noise pollution.

Meanwhile, Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray have announced a joint public march in Mumbai on October 4 against the SIR exercise. The route and timing are yet to be announced.
