Asian Games: Gulveer Singh Wins 5000m Bronze, Creates History With Third Medal

Aichi-Nagoya: Indian distance runner Gulveer Singh added a third medal to his Asian Games 2026 campaign after winning bronze in the men’s 5000m final in Aichi-Nagoya on Tuesday.

Gulveer clocked 13:32.75 to finish third in a tightly contested race. Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew took the gold in 13:30.79, while Japan’s Tomonori Yamaguchi finished second in 13:31.43.

The bronze completed a medal hat-trick for Gulveer at the continental event. He had earlier won silver in the men’s 10,000m and 1500m events.

His latest podium finish also made Gulveer the first Indian man to win three individual medals at a single Asian Games, adding a historic milestone to an already successful campaign.

The 5000m result further strengthened India’s athletics medal tally at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, with Gulveer emerging as one of the country’s leading performers in the discipline.

Gulveer’s bronze was India’s fourth medal of the day on Tuesday.
