Prague: England returned to winning ways in the UEFA Nations League with a 2-0 victory over Czechia at the Fortuna Arena, with Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane finding the net.
England entered the contest looking to respond after suffering a 3-2 defeat against reigning world champions Spain in their opening fixture. The victory provides Thomas Tuchel’s side with some momentum ahead of their next Nations League outing against Croatia in Rijeka on October 3.
Czechia were reduced to 10 men before half-time after Pavel Šulc was shown a straight red card for a challenge on England midfielder Elliot Anderson.
Despite their numerical advantage, England could not break the deadlock in the opening 45 minutes. The breakthrough arrived shortly after the restart, when Gordon converted in the 47th minute following a delivery from Trent Alexander-Arnold. The winger’s goal marked his third consecutive competitive match on the scoresheet.
England continued to press for a second, and captain Harry Kane eventually doubled their advantage. A tussle between Ladislav Krejčí and Morgan Rogers for a loose ball saw it fall kindly to Kane, who calmly placed his effort into the far corner.
The 2-0 result gives England a much-needed win as they prepare for another challenging encounter against Croatia next month.
