PM Modi Gifts Swiss President Three Award-Winning Indian Cheeses

Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented Swiss President Guy Parmelin with three award-winning Indian cheeses during their meeting in New Delhi on Monday.

The gifts — Gulmarg, Konark and Yeoor — were selected to honour Switzerland’s renowned cheese-making tradition while highlighting India’s premium dairy products.

The two leaders also held wide-ranging discussions focused on strengthening India-Switzerland ties, including trade, investment, mobility and critical technologies.

Gulmarg is a French-style Brie made from pasteurised cow’s milk. The soft, creamy cheese has a snowy-white rind and earthy, mushroom-like flavours. It won the Super Gold award at the 2026 Mundial do Queijo do Brasil.

Konark draws inspiration from the French Tomme style and features a natural rind, earthy and savoury flavours, along with a lemony finish. It won Gold at the 2023 World Cheese Awards in Norway and Silver in Switzerland in 2025.

Yeoor is a mountain-style cheese inspired by Swiss Gruyère and aged for around eight to nine months. It develops nutty, sweet and herbaceous flavours and combines Indian ingredients with Alpine traditions.

President Parmelin is on a three-day visit to India, his first state visit to the country.
