US President Donald Trump has said the United States will not attack Iran before the November 3 midterm elections, while describing ongoing discussions between Washington and Tehran as productive.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the US blockade of Iranian ports would remain in place and claimed that oil continues to move through the Strait of Hormuz.
“We are having productive discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Trump wrote.
Trump also made clear that no US attack on Iran would take place before the midterm elections.
“We will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections to be held in the United States on November 3rd,” Trump said.
The announcement marks a shift from his position a day earlier, when Trump had said he did not want an agreement with Iran and was reportedly considering military action before the elections.
The change in tone comes as public support for the war has declined and rising gas prices have added pressure during an election campaign focused heavily on affordability.
The US blockade remains in effect as Washington continues discussions with Iran.
