Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday called on citizens to participate in a demonstration scheduled at Jantar Mantar on October 10, alleging large-scale deletion of voters’ names and irregularities in the electoral process under the BJP-led government.
Accusing the Centre of undermining democracy, Kejriwal alleged that votes belonging to people who do not support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were being deleted, while fake votes were being added. He also accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of allowing such practices to take place.
“The way the BJP government at the Centre is playing with our democracy, people’s votes are being deleted on a mass scale. Those who don’t vote for the BJP have their votes deleted, while fake votes are added. This was happening openly under Gyanesh Kumar,” Kejriwal told reporters.
Calling for wider public participation, the AAP leader said the proposed demonstration was not linked to any individual or political party but concerned the country’s democratic institutions. He also demanded the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner.
“The entire country is demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. I appeal to everyone, all citizens across the nation, to gather in maximum numbers at Jantar Mantar. This is not about any single individual or party; it is about the country,” he said.
Kejriwal confirmed that he would attend the demonstration along with his family and urged citizens to join the gathering.
The appeal comes after the Delhi Police rejected an application seeking permission for the October 10 protest over the accountability of the Chief Election Commissioner. The police cited the short notice, alleged past non-compliance and prevailing law-and-order concerns as reasons for denying permission.
Despite the denial, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) activist Abhijeet Dipke reiterated on Friday that the organisation would go ahead with its planned demonstration at Jantar Mantar on October 10.
The proposed protest comes amid heightened security preparations in the national capital, with the organisers maintaining their resolve to hold the demonstration despite the police decision.
