Ladakhi climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has warned that he may launch an indefinite hunger strike or a foot march if political leaders and protesters detained in Delhi are not released by Sunday.
Calling the situation an “undeclared emergency”, Wangchuk expressed concern over the police action ahead of a planned protest at Jantar Mantar against alleged irregularities in the Election Commission’s functioning.

In a video message shared on social media, Wangchuk said he had appealed for unity and peace ahead of Saturday’s demonstration but had not expected the situation to escalate.

He said he was encouraged by the number of leaders prepared to lead the movement but later learnt that several had been detained.
Wangchuk, who extended support to the anti-Chief Election Commissioner protest, could not attend the agitation in person.
He expressed hope that those detained would be released soon, warning that he would be “compelled to consider an Anshan Fast or Padyatra March” if they remained in custody by Sunday.
Delhi Police detained several political leaders, activists and protesters as they attempted to march towards Jantar Mantar. Those detained included Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke.
