DGCA Bans MOBIKINS Power Bank On All Flights After Fire Incident

New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has prohibited the MOBIKINS MK-PB-04 power bank on all flights operating to, from and within India, citing safety concerns following a reported fire incident involving the device.

Under circular AIC 14/2026, the aviation regulator has directed that the specified power bank must not be carried in cabin baggage, checked-in luggage or transported as cargo.

Airlines have also been instructed to identify the model, prevent its carriage and inform passengers about the restriction.

The directive follows an incident on October 11, when an IndiGo flight travelling from Delhi to Chennai was diverted to Hyderabad after a reported power bank fire onboard. Flight 6E 6115 landed safely at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, with the crew bringing the situation under control, according to the airline.

Power banks generally contain lithium-ion or lithium-polymer batteries, which can overheat due to physical damage, short circuits or other faults. In serious cases, thermal runaway can trigger smoke, fire or even an explosion, creating significant risks inside an aircraft cabin.

Similar incidents have occurred previously. In October 2025, a power bank caught fire on an IndiGo flight to Dimapur while taxiing in Delhi. Another incident in May 2026 reportedly led to an emergency evacuation after an IndiGo flight landed in Chandigarh.
