Six people, including one child, have died after a plane crashed near Reedsburg in Wisconsin on Tuesday night, according to the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities received reports of a downed aircraft shortly after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, prompting a search operation in the area.
Officials later confirmed that five adults and one child were aboard the aircraft, which was returning from Kenosha to Menomonie in Wisconsin.
Search teams located the wreckage in a densely wooded area and found all six occupants dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s office said the aircraft had reportedly been in communication with a nearby air traffic control tower before the crash. Investigators are now examining those communications and assessing whether weather conditions in the area may have contributed to the incident.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims.
Officials also confirmed that there were no reported injuries among people on the ground and no damage to nearby structures.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash is ongoing.
