Real Madrid produced a remarkable late turnaround to beat Roma 4-3 in a thrilling UEFA Champions League encounter, scoring three times in the final stages after trailing by two goals.
The Spanish giants appeared headed for defeat at the Stadio Olimpico after Roma established a 3-1 lead early in the second half. However, Madrid mounted a spirited comeback, with Arda Güler playing a decisive role in all three late goals.
Roma took the lead in the 20th minute when Marten de Roon’s long-range effort found the net following a deflection off Donyell Malen. Madrid responded five minutes later as Kylian Mbappe’s powerful strike from outside the penalty area took a deflection off Gianluca Mancini before beating goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini.
Both sides created opportunities before the break, but the score remained 1-1 at half-time.
Roma returned with greater attacking intent and regained the lead in the 51st minute through Malen, who finished off a counterattacking move. The forward struck again seven minutes later, converting a through ball from Matias Soule to put the hosts 3-1 ahead.
With Madrid facing the prospect of defeat, Güler’s set-piece deliveries sparked the visitors’ revival. In the 83rd minute, César Palacios Espí reduced the deficit to 3-2 by reacting quickest to a rebound after Endrick’s header from a Güler corner.
Madrid drew level just two minutes later when Endrick headed home another corner from Güler, shifting the momentum firmly in the visitors’ favour.
The comeback was completed in the 89th minute as Antonio Rüdiger converted Güler’s third decisive corner delivery with an acrobatic finish to give Madrid a 4-3 lead.
Roma were unable to find an equaliser in the closing moments as Real Madrid held on for a dramatic victory after trailing for much of the second half.
