CJP Seeks Release Of Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka; Decision Expected Today

New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has sought the release of leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka from judicial custody after submitting their surety documents to the Special Executive Magistrate.

A decision is expected by today’s afternoon, while Delhi Police are verifying the sureties.

The two leaders were sent to Tihar Jail for five days on October 14 after police accused them of violating peace bonds and entering Jantar Mantar, which was recently removed from the list of designated protest sites.

Police cited repeated violations and concerns that they could disturb public order or provoke others. Their associate, Ajinkya Shinde, was released after signing a peace bond.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke criticised the detentions, alleging that the government was suppressing dissent.

The party’s protests concern alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and restrictions on demonstrations at Jantar Mantar.

Under an October 11 order issued by Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar, Ramlila Maidan, Burari Ground and CBD Ground were designated as protest venues, effectively removing Jantar Mantar from the list.

CJP argues that relocating demonstrations away from the capital’s political centre reduces their visibility.

The party has warned it will pursue legal action if Das and Ranka are not released on Sunday.

The leaders had previously signed bonds promising to maintain peace for one year following an earlier protest-related detention.
