Delhi Crime Branch Summons CJP Leaders Das, Ranka Over Jantar Mantar Protest

New Delhi: The Delhi Police Crime Branch has summoned Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka to record their statements in two cases linked to their October 13 protest at Jantar Mantar.

They have been asked to appear at the Crime Branch office in Rajouri Garden at noon Thursday. CJP member Ajinkya Shinde has also reportedly been summoned.

The cases involve allegations of trespassing, disobeying public orders, criminal conspiracy and obstructing or assaulting public servants.

One FIR was registered at Connaught Place police station and the other at Parliament Street police station. Both cases have been transferred to the Crime Branch for further investigation.

The protest was held to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Police alleged that CJP members crossed barricades and entered Jantar Mantar after the site was denotified as an authorised protest venue.

Das and Ranka were released from Tihar Jail on Wednesday after a Special Executive Magistrate rejected the police request to extend their custody.

They furnished personal bonds and sureties of ₹50,000 each and undertook to maintain peace, refrain from organising protests at Jantar Mantar while it remains denotified, and ensure that future demonstrations remain within the constitutional framework.

The magistrate said further custody was unnecessary at this stage. The inquiry will continue, with the next hearing scheduled for October 23.
