The Embassy of India in Paris has issued a safety advisory for Indian nationals living in or travelling to France amid violent demonstrations, localised curfews and heightened security ahead of fresh protests.
The embassy urged citizens to remain vigilant, avoid protest sites and crowded areas, follow instructions from French authorities and monitor official updates for possible public transport disruptions.
It also recommended checking local news and government channels, including gouvernement.fr and Paris transport operator RATP’s website. Emergency assistance is available through the embassy’s dedicated helpline.
The advisory comes as France prepares for further demonstrations over rising living costs, deteriorating school conditions and pressure on public services.
Protests that began in September among students and teachers have expanded to include trade unions and Yellow Vest activists, with reports of looting, arson and clashes with police.
Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin said more than 2,500 people had been detained by Monday evening.
On Wednesday, he reported that 174 detainees had been jailed and 917 formally prosecuted. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has promised a large-scale security deployment ahead of Saturday’s demonstrations.
Authorities have extended curfews in parts of Paris, Lyon and other cities, while police prohibited a demonstration planned in Paris for Thursday, citing public safety concerns.
The government has announced plans to recruit additional teachers, but financial pressures and political divisions continue to complicate broader reforms.
