All 14 Indian nationals aboard a yacht reportedly targeted by gunfire in Yemeni waters are safe, the Indian Embassy in Yemen said on Friday.
In a statement, the Embassy said the Indians were safe and were located in the vicinity of Hodeidah in Yemen. It added that efforts would continue to ensure their well-being.
The development comes a day after the Embassy said it was gathering information about the incident reported off the Yemeni coast on October 22.
Yemen’s Houthi rebels had alleged that Saudi Arabia targeted an Indian yacht carrying 14 nationals near Zuqar Island in the southern Red Sea. According to the group, Yemeni forces had launched a rescue operation following the reported incident.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the information was preliminary and that further details would be shared as they became available. He also alleged that the reported attack threatened international navigation in the Red Sea.
The latest development comes amid heightened security concerns in the region following an attack at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, in which two people, including an Indian national, were killed. Two other Indian nationals were injured, according to the Indian Embassy in Riyadh.
