Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said India has consistently taken concrete steps to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens stranded abroad during crises, stressing that the country goes beyond issuing travel advisories to bring people home safely.
Addressing an event in Berlin, Germany, Goyal said India acts to evacuate its nationals during emergencies and has also assisted in bringing citizens of other countries to safety alongside Indians.
Referring to the evacuation efforts during the Russia-Ukraine war, Goyal said Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally supervised the operations and established a dedicated team in New Delhi to coordinate the process and provide continuous guidance.
He added that four senior Union ministers were deputed to neighbouring countries to facilitate the evacuation of Indian citizens and support the operation.
Goyal said these efforts demonstrate India’s commitment to protecting its citizens and ensuring their safe return during difficult and challenging circumstances.
