France Arrests 135 Protesters, Seizes Weapons As 410,000 March Nationwide

French authorities have detained 135 people and confiscated various weapons during nationwide protests over the cost of living, education and political issues, as demonstrations spread across several cities.

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said no major incidents had occurred so far, while police described the situation in Paris as calm.

Items seized during the security operations reportedly included metal balls, lead pellets, fireworks, slingshots, improvised weapons, airsoft guns and a katana sword.

According to the official tallies released by French law enforcement placed the national turnout lower at 410,000 participants.

In Orléans, approximately 11,000 demonstrators had gathered by noon to oppose a two-day convention organised by the far-right National Rally party.

Protests were also reported in Marseille, Lyon and Lille, with clashes breaking out between police and demonstrators in Lyon.

Authorities have deployed a large police force across the country ahead of further demonstrations, aiming to prevent a repeat of the violence witnessed during last week’s protests. The earlier unrest involved widespread looting, vehicles being set on fire and attacks on public buildings.

Masked individuals also targeted businesses in Paris and other city centres during the previous demonstrations.

Meanwhile, several major museums in Paris have closed their doors as security preparations continue. Authorities remain on alert as protests spread, with police working to maintain order and prevent further violence during the nationwide demonstrations.
