Trump Says Iran Strikes Possible as He Leaves Door Open For Deal

Washington DC: US President Donald Trump has said he could launch fresh strikes against Iran as early as Sunday, while also expressing the possibility of reaching a diplomatic agreement with Tehran.

Speaking to reporters in Florida on Saturday after casting his vote in the US midterm elections, Trump said military action remained an option but did not confirm a final decision. “Maybe tomorrow… There’s a possibility I will. There’s also a possibility we’ll have a nice, big, beautiful agreement,” he said, according to Reuters.

The remarks followed Trump’s warning at a Florida rally on Friday that Washington could launch another operation, referring to the military campaign as “Epic Fury”.

The conflict began on February 28, when the US and Israel launched strikes on Iranian military infrastructure and leadership targets, killing Iran’s then Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Trump praised US military operations, claiming Iranian fighter jets had been knocked out and 259 ships had been sunk.

He also questioned whether Tehran would honour any future agreement and said his administration wanted to ensure Iran could never develop a nuclear weapon.

Meanwhile, Iran denied reports that it had offered Pakistani mediators a proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the US lifting its naval blockade. The IRGC-affiliated Tasnim news agency dismissed the reports as “a lie and fabrication”.

Separately, a US intelligence memo dated October 23 reportedly warned that suspected Iranian plots targeting American diplomats and government officials had reached advanced stages.

The concerns have prompted increased security attention and reduced staffing at some US embassies in the Middle East, according to media reports.
