Mumbai Motorist Alleges Roadside Extortion Over Rs 6,000 Demand

Mumbai: A Mumbai motorist has alleged a suspected roadside extortion attempt after a two-wheeler rider accused him of running over his toes and demanded ₹6,000 as compensation, according to a social media post that has gained traction online.

The incident reportedly occurred near Anmol Fortune while the motorist was driving his twin children home from school. In a post on X, he claimed the rider approached his car, banged on the window and later attempted to position his two-wheeler in front of the vehicle.

The motorist maintained that the vehicles had not made contact. However, the rider allegedly insisted that the car had run over his toes and demanded cash for medical expenses without explaining how he had calculated the amount.

According to the account, the rider repeatedly asked the motorist to step out of the car. Concerned about his children’s safety, the driver refused and asked the man not to put his hands or face through the window.

The situation reportedly changed when a police jeep arrived. After hearing the motorist’s account, an officer suggested that both parties visit a nearby police station to address the dispute.

However, the rider allegedly dropped his demand to ₹1,000 and asked the motorist to transfer the amount through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), rather than accompany him to the police station.

The motorist said he asked the rider to show the alleged injury so that he could photograph it. With his children still inside the vehicle and the confrontation continuing, he eventually transferred ₹1,000 to end the encounter.

While the motorist acknowledged that he could not conclusively establish whether the incident was a scam, he described the circumstances as suspicious.

He urged other drivers not to give in to intimidation, advising them to prioritise personal safety, seek police assistance and document such incidents whenever it is safe to do so.
