Melania Trump Announces Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire

US First Lady Melania Trump has announced that a localised ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine began on October 27, two days earlier than originally planned, to facilitate humanitarian assistance and protect civilians in the conflict-hit region.

In a post on X, Melania said the ceasefire came into effect at 4:00 am Moscow time. She added that the designated area had been extended beyond Oleshky in the Kherson region, allowing humanitarian convoys to pass safely and support civilian evacuations.

Melania also said Russian Armed Forces General Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff, had confirmed the ceasefire.

The announcement follows a White House statement issued on October 23, which said Melania had helped secure a temporary halt to military operations in Oleshky to enable humanitarian relief and the evacuation of civilians.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Melania said, “The situation in Oleshky is dire. Oleshky is a front-line war city on the brink of disaster. Oleshky’s remaining population is comprised primarily of elderly residents who urgently need medical attention, medicine, food and clean water.”

However, the available report does not independently confirm whether the ceasefire has been implemented on the ground.
