India opener Abhishek Sharma has returned to the top of the ICC Men’s T20I batter rankings after a match-winning century against New Zealand, while South Africa’s Marco Jansen has achieved career-best positions in both the Test bowling and all-rounder rankings.
Abhishek’s rise followed a stunning display in the third T20I against New Zealand in Wellington on Tuesday. The left-handed batter smashed 113 off just 38 deliveries, reaching his hundred in 35 balls, as India registered a six-wicket victory to seal the series.
The performance helped Abhishek reclaim the No. 1 position from teammate Ishan Kishan, who had overtaken him in July after a strong run of performances against Ireland. Abhishek had first reached the top of the T20I batting rankings in July 2025, displacing Australia’s Travis Head.
Jansen, meanwhile, emerged as the biggest mover in the Test rankings after playing a decisive role in South Africa’s victory over Australia in the second World Test Championship match in Gqeberha.
The 26-year-old left-arm fast bowler scored 85 runs and claimed five wickets in Australia’s first innings, helping the Proteas secure a comprehensive win. His performance lifted him 13 places to 56th in the Test batting rankings, while a five-place jump took him past Australia’s Mitchell Starc to the top of the bowling list.
Jansen also climbed one position to become the world’s leading Test all-rounder, ending India’s Ravindra Jadeja’s reign at the summit that had lasted for more than four years. His rise comes after former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn praised him as the best cricketer in the world.
Other Indian players also gained ground in the latest T20I rankings. Sanju Samson moved up six places to 20th among batters, while New Zealand’s Finn Allen climbed three spots to 25th.
In the bowling rankings, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner advanced seven places to seventh, and India’s Arshdeep Singh improved six positions to 15th.
The ongoing ODI tri-series featuring Pakistan, England and Sri Lanka also influenced the latest one-day international rankings. England batters Ben Duckett and Harry Brook made progress, while Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi moved up two places to sixth among ODI bowlers.
Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai climbed 13 positions to seventh, and Namibia’s Bernard Scholtz rose nine places to eighth, taking both into the ODI bowling top 10. Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi also advanced five places to third in the ODI all-rounder rankings.
