EAM Jaishankar to Attend G20, Quad Meetings in US, COHGM in Antigua

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will visit the United States and Antigua and Barbuda to participate in key multilateral meetings and hold bilateral discussions with foreign counterparts, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Wednesday.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Jaishankar would attend the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 30 and 31. He is also scheduled to participate in a meeting of Quad foreign ministers and hold bilateral engagements on the sidelines of the gathering.

The G20 meeting will bring together representatives of major developed and developing economies to discuss international economic and financial challenges. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to host the meeting in Atlanta during the same period, according to the US Department of State.

After concluding his engagements in the United States, Jaishankar will travel to St John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, to lead India’s delegation at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), scheduled from November 1 to 4.

Jaiswal said the theme of the Commonwealth summit this year is “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth”, adding that India looks forward to participating in the discussions.

The meetings are expected to provide opportunities for India to engage with international partners on shared priorities through the G20, the Quad and the Commonwealth.

The G20 comprises 19 countries and two regional organisations, the European Union and the African Union. Its members collectively account for around 85 per cent of global gross domestic product, more than 75 per cent of international trade and approximately two-thirds of the world’s population.
