Google Launches Dreambeans In India, Turns Online Activity Into AI Stories

New Delhi: Google has brought its Dreambeans app to India, making it the first country outside the US to get the experimental AI app. Dreambeans uses information from users’ online activity to create personalised, illustrated stories about their interests, plans and everyday lives.

The app is now available on Android and iOS in English and 13 Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Assamese and Nepali.

Google says the app aims to help users discover information relevant to their interests without endlessly scrolling through online feeds. It turns information from users’ online activity into personalised collections of daily stories.

How Does Google Dreambeans Work?

Google first introduced Dreambeans in the US earlier this year. The app connects information from Google services that users choose to share, including Calendar, Gemini, Gmail, Photos, Search and YouTube.

Using this information, it creates stories based on users’ interests and everyday lives without requiring them to type in a prompt. These stories could include places they might enjoy visiting, arts and crafts ideas, and reminders about upcoming local events.

Users can tap on stories to explore further, bookmark suggestions or share them with others. Initially, Dreambeans created stories with static AI-generated illustrations. Google has since added the ability to use its Veo video-generation model to bring images in selected stories to life.

Users can also provide feedback on the app’s suggestions to help make future stories more relevant.

How To Use Google Dreambeans?

– Install Google Dreambeans from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
– Log in using a personal Google account. The app currently supports only personal Gmail accounts.
– Choose which services Dreambeans can access, including Gmail, Google Photos, Calendar, Search, YouTube and Gemini.
– Select a language for personalised stories. Only one language can be selected at a time.
– Explore the daily stories generated from connected services, bookmark suggestions or share them.
– Tell the app which subjects to avoid and provide feedback to improve future suggestions.

Privacy And Availability

Dreambeans is currently available only to users with personal Gmail accounts. The stories it generates are private and can only be viewed by the account holder.

Users control the information the app can access and can disconnect linked Google services whenever they want or delete their Dreambeans data. Google says that when users delete information from connected services, it is also removed from Dreambeans’ personalisation system.
