Iran Will Reciprocate If US Restores MoU Commitments: President Pezeshkian

Bishkek: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday said Iran would “immediately reciprocate” if the United States returned to its commitments under a 14-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), as he addressed the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek.

Pezeshkian said Iran had a “brilliant record” of fulfilling its international obligations and treaties, while accusing unilateral policies, military force, sanctions and geopolitical competition of threatening regional and global stability.

Referring to recent developments in West Asia, he alleged that US and Israeli strikes against Iran in June 2025 and February 2026 violated the UN Charter and international law. He said the attacks resulted in large-scale casualties and accused the US and Israel of pursuing policies based on force and pressure.

Pezeshkian said Iran’s subsequent negotiations, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, resulted in a 14-point MoU after the conflict. However, he alleged that the US commitment to the agreement lasted less than two weeks and accused Washington of subsequently making excessive demands and reneging on its commitments.

“It is obvious that the violation of US commitments was met with a proportionate response from Iran. But I am saying frankly that if the US returns to its commitments in the aforementioned Memorandum of Understanding, the Islamic Republic of Iran will immediately reciprocate,” he said.

The Iranian President also described the strikes as an assault on an SCO member state and thanked the organisation and countries that had condemned what he termed aggression against Iran.

Pezeshkian arrived in Bishkek on Monday to participate in the SCO summit and the Shanghai Plus gathering.
