US Vice President JD Vance has sharply responded to Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed after El-Sayed referred to Second Lady Usha Vance in a social media post.
Vance made the comments at a campaign rally in Michigan on Monday while supporting Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers.
Vance said he believed Michigan voters were more concerned with policy matters than remarks involving a political rival’s wife. “I actually think that the people of Michigan think it’s kind of weird when you talk about another guy’s wife,” Vance said.
He then criticised El-Sayed over his policy positions, alleging that they had negatively affected wages and jobs for workers in Michigan. Vance also directly addressed El-Sayed’s reference to his wife, saying, “But whatever you want to talk about, Abdul, keep my wife’s name the hell out of your mouth because she’s way out of your league.”
The exchange followed comments by Vance about El-Sayed’s views on Sharia law and his criticism of Vance’s remarks concerning his late grandfather, whom Vance calls “Papaw.”
El-Sayed had posted: “So do we think JD is taking Usha with him back in time to meet Papaw, or no…”
