‘Not a Time of War’: Zelenskyy Hails India’s Clear Position on Ukraine After Jaishankar Meet

Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday welcomed India’s commitment to ending Russia’s war against Ukraine, saying “peace is needed” and describing New Delhi’s position as clear.

Zelenskyy made the remarks after meeting External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Kyiv. The two discussed efforts to end the conflict, the security situation in the Black Sea and threats to civilian shipping.

Zelenskyy said Russia launched jet-powered Shahed drones, allegedly developed with Iranian assistance, while Jaishankar was in Kyiv.

Ukrainian fighter jets intercepted most of the drones, helping ensure the safety of the Indian delegation. He urged major powers to take a clear stance for an end to the war and a reliable peace.

The Ukrainian president said both sides agreed that blocking food supplies to regions dependent on maritime routes was unacceptable.

He accused Russia of targeting Ukrainian ports, food corridors and supply routes, disrupting global relations, and called for international cooperation on maritime security.

Jaishankar said he briefed Zelenskyy on his talks with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

He said discussions focused on approaches to end the conflict and strengthening bilateral cooperation in education, health, agriculture, digital technology, innovation, diplomatic training and development.

Earlier, Jaishankar and Sybiha discussed peace negotiations and the need to ensure the safety of commercial shipping and seafarers.
