Delhi Records AQI Of 164, Air Quality Remains ‘Moderate’

New Delhi: Delhi recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 164 at 7 am on Monday, placing the national capital in the ‘moderate’ category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Of Delhi’s 60 air quality monitoring stations, 55 reported data, with PM2.5 identified as the primary pollutant at 30 stations. Jahangirpuri recorded the highest AQI at 246, followed by Vivek Vihar at 235, CRRI Mathura Road at 231, Punjabi Bagh at 225 and R K Puram at 223.

All five locations fell in the ‘poor’ category. PM2.5 was the dominant pollutant at four stations, while PM10 led at CRRI Mathura Road.

Across Delhi-NCR, the AQI reached 168 on Sunday, with PM2.5 and PM10 remaining the main pollutants. Local readings varied, with PGDAV College and Sriniwaspuri recording levels around 110, while other stations reported values ranging from 118 to above 180.

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) implemented Stage 1 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi-NCR on October 21.

Measures include restrictions on coal and firewood in tandoors at eateries and limiting diesel generators to essential or emergency use.

Meanwhile, toxic white foam has reappeared on the Yamuna near Kalindi Kunj, highlighting continuing water pollution concerns.

The development follows Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s praise for infrastructure projects worth approximately ₹9,000 crore aimed at reviving the river.
