Ahmedabad Woman Loses Rs 76,000 In Fake Bitcoin Investment Scam On Telegram

Ahmedabad: A 29-year-old woman from Ahmedabad’s Shahpur area allegedly lost ₹76,000 after being lured into a fake Bitcoin investment scheme through a Telegram channel promising high returns.

According to her complaint, the woman came across a Telegram group where members displayed screenshots of what appeared to be large profits from Bitcoin trading. Believing the claims, she decided to invest ₹3,000.

After the initial payment, the scammers showed her a virtual profit and told her that she could withdraw the money after completing another payment under an SIP. She subsequently transferred ₹15,960.

The fraudsters then demanded additional money, this time claiming it was required for GST charges. Trusting their assurances, the woman made two more payments of ₹29,000 and ₹23,000.

By then, she had transferred a total of ₹76,000. However, the promised profits were never released, and she also failed to recover her original investment.

Realising that she had been duped, the woman approached the Cyber Crime Police Station and lodged a complaint. Police have begun investigating the case.
