At least 27 people were killed and 42 injured after an overnight Russian drone strike hit an enterprise in Myla, on the western outskirts of Kyiv, Ukrainian officials said Saturday.
A large fire and explosions followed the attack, with authorities saying more than 380 people were being evacuated from the affected area in Bucha district.
Kyiv region Governor Tymur Tkachenko said at least 50 residential buildings were damaged, while the blaze spread to nearby homes and a restaurant. Among those killed was Taras Didych, mayor of Dmytrivska village.
Ukrainian prosecutors said the facility appeared to have stored explosive materials and launched an investigation into whether they were legally stored and whether the company had the required permits. Officials said the death toll could rise.
Prime Minister Sergiy Koretsky criticised the authorities, saying lessons had not been learned from a deadly July attack on a munitions depot in Vyshneve, where investigators found serious safety failures.
He called the repeated mistakes “criminal negligence” and vowed that those responsible must face severe punishment.
Russia and Ukraine have intensified long-range strikes in recent months, causing growing civilian casualties and widespread disruption.
