Ex-Serviceman Duped Of Rs 46.9 Lakh In Fake Trading Investment

An Ahmedabad ex-serviceman allegedly lost Rs 46.92 lakh after falling for an online investment scheme that promised unusually high returns.

The victim reportedly came across a Facebook reel in May promoting an investment platform called Quantum AI. The advertisement claimed that investing Rs 22,000 could generate returns of around Rs 3.5 lakh every month.

After sharing his contact details, he was contacted by people posing as platform representatives and account managers. They allegedly convinced him to trade in commodities such as gold, silver, oil and natural gas through a website.

The victim first paid Rs 22,390 via UPI. He was later persuaded to make several larger transfers through RTGS. Between June and July, he reportedly transferred Rs 68.50 lakh through RTGS and Rs 2.32 lakh through UPI.

Although the platform showed profits on his account, problems arose when he tried to withdraw his money. He received Rs 23.89 lakh, while Rs 46.92 lakh remained unpaid. The fraudsters allegedly demanded more money before allowing him to withdraw the remaining amount.

After realising that he could have been scammed, the victim contacted the cybercrime helpline on August 26. The cybercrime police subsequently registered a case of cheating and criminal conspiracy under the BNS.
