Arsenal End Anfield Drought As Brighton Stun Manchester City

The ninth round of the 2026/27 Premier League season witnessed several historic milestones, with Arsenal ending their long wait for a victory at Anfield, Brighton recording a landmark win over Manchester City and Cole Palmer reaching a major goalscoring milestone for Chelsea.

Arsenal secured a memorable 1-0 victory against Liverpool at Anfield, registering their first win at the venue since September 2012. The result ended a run of 16 visits without a victory and took Mikel Arteta’s side to 24 points from nine matches.

Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal, taking his Premier League tally to 46 and becoming the highest-scoring German player in the competition’s history. He moved ahead of former Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who had scored 45 goals.

Brighton also produced one of the biggest results of the weekend, defeating Manchester City 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium. It was their first-ever away victory against City after 18 attempts. Despite registering 21 shots, Pep Guardiola’s side failed to find the net, ending a run of 23 consecutive home league matches in which they had scored.

Brighton’s impressive form continued, with the club recording five wins in their last six league matches. They have also kept six clean sheets this season, the highest among Premier League teams.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur registered a convincing 2-0 win over Crystal Palace, recording three consecutive league victories for the first time since February 2025. Spurs dominated the contest with 34 shots, while Palace managed just two. The match also saw Jean-Philippe Mateta sent off in the 13th minute, the earliest dismissal of an opponent in a Premier League match against Tottenham.

Chelsea defeated Manchester United 2-0, with Cole Palmer reaching 50 Premier League goals for the club. The England international achieved the milestone in his 105th appearance, becoming the third-fastest Chelsea player to reach the mark after Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Diego Costa.

The defeat extended Manchester United’s winless run across all competitions to nine matches, their longest such sequence since September 1984.

Bournemouth continued their strong campaign with a 2-0 victory over Leeds United, securing three successive Premier League wins without conceding for the first time. Brazilian forward Evanilson scored for the fourth consecutive league match, marking his longest goalscoring run in the competition.

Brentford celebrated their 100th Premier League home fixture with a 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest. The visitors, meanwhile, continued to struggle in front of goal, having failed to score in five of their opening nine league matches.

Elsewhere, Coventry City defeated Sunderland 3-1, scoring twice from outside the penalty area in a Premier League match for the first time since December 1999. Tatsuhiro Sakamoto also became the first Asian player to score a Premier League goal for Coventry.

Hull City played out a 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town to take their points tally to 11 after nine matches. Oliver McBurnie also scored his first direct free-kick goal in the Premier League.

Aston Villa and Fulham shared the points in a 1-1 draw, extending Villa’s unbeaten league run to five matches. Nicolas Jackson continued his impressive form, finishing October with six goals across all competitions, the joint-highest tally by a Premier League player during the month.
