Washington: US President Donald Trump on Sunday named Katie Zacharia, a lawyer and conservative commentator who previously worked as a communications adviser at Trump Media & Technology Group, as the next White House press secretary.
In a Truth Social post, Trump said Zacharia would begin her term on Monday, Columbus Day, and hold her introductory news conference on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the White House press briefing room.
“I am pleased to announce that Katie Zacharia will be beginning her term as Press Secretary tomorrow, Columbus Day, and will be doing an introductory News Conference on Tuesday at 9:30 A.M. from the Press Briefing Room in the White House,” Trump wrote.
“Katie has been with me, in spirit, from the very beginning, and will do a fantastic job!” he added.
In a separate Truth Social post on Friday, Trump said Zacharia had previously been involved in his campaigns, assisting in key swing states, where he claimed they won “7 out of 7.” He described her as having “an unblemished record of support” and being a loyal and brilliant supporter from the beginning.
Zacharia, who describes herself as a “hardline Trump supporter,” succeeds Karoline Leavitt, who left the Trump administration in late August after going on maternity leave following the birth of her second child earlier this year. Leavitt is expected to join Fox News as an on-air contributor next month.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Zacharia has worked since June as a senior communications adviser for Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social, which Trump favours as his social media platform.
Her profile also lists her as general counsel at Fix California, a conservative activist group founded by Richard Grenell, Trump’s special presidential envoy for special missions and former head of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
In March, Zacharia completed a two-month stint as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), according to her LinkedIn page. Her IMDb page lists dozens of appearances on Fox News political talk shows and other conservative outlets.
Zacharia is the second press secretary in Trump’s second term and the sixth consecutive woman to hold the position.
“The work ahead is to continue delivering strong results for our Country and communicating to the American people the major wins that this Administration is making every single day,” Zacharia said in a previous post on X.
