India’s women wrestlers concluded their campaign at the U23 World Wrestling Championships with two medals after Amruta Pujari secured silver in the 72kg category on Saturday.
Pujari lost the final to Ukraine’s Iryna Zablotska. Trailing 0-6, she was pinned by her opponent, who claimed the gold medal.
India missed another podium finish when Sweety lost the 53kg bronze-medal bout against Ukraine’s Anastasiia Polska by technical superiority. She had reached the contest after narrowly defeating China’s Xiaotong Zeng 11-10 in the repechage round.
Vaishnavi Patil also exited without a medal after losing 2-4 to Japan’s Haruka Kobaru in the repechage. Earlier, Komal had secured bronze in the 59kg category.
Meanwhile, India’s men’s freestyle wrestlers failed to reach the medal rounds, with all five competitors falling short. Vaibhav Patil and Adarsh Patil exited in the knockout stages, while Amit lost in the 86kg category after being pinned by Georgia’s Tornike Samkharadze.
India have won three medals overall at the competition, including silver for Greco-Roman wrestler Vishvajit More in the 55kg division.
